10 Ways You Can Ruin Your Blog
Theres a lot of things that people can do wrong on their blog that could ruin their blog. Well, not necessarily ruin it but lead to its demise. I know from observing hundreds of blogs that I have come across in the past year and have seen how some of them slowly vanished from the blogosphere. So, here are 10 ways that you can ruin your blog:
1 ) Blog too little or not at all – By blogging too little or to completely stop blogging gives your readers the idea that you either don’t have much to say or that you’ve moved on to things that are more important. Sometimes, those things ARE more important but other times your attention is just diverted.
2 ) 100% Paid Reviews – If your blog goes from having actual content to having nothing but paid reviews then your blog is on its way down. Nobody wants to see nothing but paid advertisements about credit card offers and cheap vacations. If I want to see ads, I’ll buy a Sunday Newspaper.
3 ) Ad Overload – Once your blog has so many ads that when you attempt to close one ad, another pops up, thats called Ad Overload. Some blogs even have the 300×250 ads that actually are hovering over actual content. Thats pretty frustrating and its not going to help your blog make any more money.
4 ) Guest Post Galore – TheNetFool recently mentioned why Guest Posts are not useful but I think that Guest Posts are just fillers. Unless they’re actually something interesting, they’re usually just fillers in my opinion. If you have nothing but guest posts then youre slowly losing your actual audience.
5 ) Scamming – This one comes up yet again. You can’t expect to cheat your readers or clients/customers and expect for people to forgive you. If you’ve led your readers by way of a faulty premise then your blog isn’t going to survive for long.
6 ) Several Breaks – This means that you take breaks quite frequently. Its the idea that one break a month is reasonable but if you take a break every couple days then you’ll eventually take more breaks leading to one post a month which won’t be that great after all.
7 ) Stolent Content – Oh, this one is a great one. If youre stealing someones content then you’ll be shut down really quick. Theres millions of readers out there and there are lots of people that can recognize stolen content when they see it so don’t steal or cheat otherwise that could be the fastest way to get out of the blogosphere.
8 )Bad Reputation – If you have a bad reputation in the sense that you previously owned a blog that was scamming readers and if your current blog starts to look suspicious then its just that much more incentive for readers to avoid your blog entirely. Also, you can’t expect to hold fake contests. It will only kill your blog faster.
9 ) Stop Interacting – This means that you stop commenting on other peoples blogs or you stop responding to comments on your own blog. This usually doesnt necessarily ruin your blog but it could mean that readers don’t find a need to say anything anymore.
10 ) Stop Caring – If you stop caring about your blog then its pretty much over. If you stop caring about how it looks or how well the content is edited or researched then youre definitely a likely candidate for a bad blog.
So there you have it! 10 ways that you can ruin your blog. I hope you enjoyed tihs post as I have lots more to come this week including some nice surprises. Let me know your thoughts!

Thank God I never did any of the 10 mistakes there. Or did I?
Oh so true. That first one is definitely a big one for me. I know that I give blogs a couple weeks…if I see no new posts I’m outta there! It’s a right click and delete off my favorites list. I don’t peruse a lot of blogs that are all about the $$, so I don’t come across a bunch of scamming and such, but I know it’s out there. So not cool!
hmmm… Now I am thinking If I am doing any of those things..
what do you think?
Oh yeah…lol, this is the dead blog list right here! I love your lists dude, good stuff and I agree. I liked Jim’s post about guest posting too…though I’ve done it, I do notice that when a blogger I read on a regular, has guest posts, I usually skim over them….unintentionally..but I dunno, something about it lol
I do read them sometimes but…I liked Jim’s outlook on it too.
Keep it up man
true. i keep an eye out for the blogs on my blogroll which haven’t posted for a month already, at which point i delete them. with so many blogs out there, with good quality content, updating regularly, there’s no need to have to wait for so long to read something interesting.
Wow, my blog is on it’s way down…I need to try and find the time to revive it before it’s completely dead….or maybe it already is.
I have been very careful about these points since the time you blogged, but still i feel i lack something
