BloggerWave: How good is it?
Jun 21st
So Recently, I tried to get into some other forms of paid reviews and obviously since I was new last month, my review offers weren’t that great and all of them for last month maxed out at about $10. Not that bad at all, and at the time, I didn’t mind accepting offers from companies that had a decent concept for example the video editing suite that I had reviewed along with the Media swap website that allows you to swap movies, games and books. Overall, it has treated me well and hopefully as time goes on and as the review prices go up, I will start to get picky with the reviews and keep in mind as to what my readers would actually read. I haven’t been accepted into PayPerPost as yet not have I been accepted into Sponsored Reviews mainly because you need to be live for 90 days, so by the time August 15th comes around, I hope to be a part of those two paid review clubs.
Anyway, recently I came across this website called Bloggerwave. They are similar to ReviewMe in the fact that you get review offers that you can accept and so forth. There are a few good things about the website – first of all with competitors such as PayPerPost, Sponsored Reviews and ReviewMe around, I would think that attempting to enter such a market would take some guts. Now, Bloggerwave isn’t as big as ReviewMe or Sponsored Reviews but I don’t want to hate on a start up. I believe they started early this year and they have received quite a bit of negative feedback lately regarding late payments or payments they never received. Having said that, I will come to know how trustworthy they really are once the time comes around. Obviously, based on what happens I will keep you guys updated. As of now, if you sign up for Bloggerwave you will notice that there are only two jobs that you can accept that will total $20. Once again, I dont want to push anyone for Bloggerwave because of some of the negative feedback but if I find it to be a legitimate option then you will hear about it! Hope you guys liked this short review and let me know if you have heard anything about Bloggerwave so far.
Wendy’s Could Be Up for Sale!
Jun 21st

Some of you may LOVE Wendy’s but it might come as a surprise to some of you that Wendy’s hasn’t been doing so well financially and therefore this is one of the many businesses for sale now. On Monday, Wendy’s slashed its earnings forecast down and is now considering a sale among other alternatives. In April, the company contemplated a sale as an option and this past Monday, that option has become an option that they are likely to take. Wendy’s is the Number 3 hamburger gain and it cut its earnings forecast down about 9-13% per share. Wendy’s even tried adjusting prices to align itself with McDonalds and Burger King meaning that in some areas a baked potato would now cost $1.19 instead of the original .99 cents. It also was nudged to spin off a coffee and doughnut chain but apparently that plan didn’t fall through. One of Wendy’s largest owners, Highfields Capital Management, which owns 8.5% of Wendy’s was pushing for a sale to the highest bidder. Highfields Capital is a private investment manager firm. Wendy’s currently owns about 22% of its 9,900 stores and the other 78% are franchisee owned. A private equity buyer could might as well get something out of purchasing the firm by re-capitalizing the debt, re-franchising some of the company-owned restaurants and by indulging in better marketing strategies. Well, it would be interesting to see how this turns out for Wendy’s. In the mean time, lets have a look at its stock chart.
Stock Chart
Enlarged ViewAs you can see above, I have the entire stock chart showing the dividends in blue and the stock splits in orange. The chart above represents a time scale from 1983 to 2007 (current). If you notice, the stock splits came early and so it doesn’t make this too much fun as a buyer. All the dividends after 1987 were around the 6 cent mark.
Hypothetical Scenario for Fun
For example, if you purchased Wendy’s stock in the Feb of 1990 at $4 per share and you purchased 1000 of them for a total cost to you of $4000. Over the years you let it hang around and decided to sell around July 2006. So lets break this down.
Purchased: 1000 shares at $4 each for a cost of $4000
Sold: 1000 shares at $60 each for a sale price of $60,000
Thats a profit of $56,000 and that may not seem like much considering you waited 16 years but think about this in the case that you owned 10,000 shares then you will see a big change. If there were stock splits then you would see your profits rise instantly and thats what I meant that its not “too much fun as a buyer”
Interesting Facts That You May Not Have Known
1) The Total Market Capitalization for Wendy’s is $3.38 Billion
2) Outback Steakhouse was taken private this month for $3.5 Billion
3) Applebee’s is exploring a sale and reports were made that IHOP may have bid.
Well, I hope you enjoyed this post. I finally got to talk about a little bit of finance on my blog and I hope you appreciate my insight! I wonder if you guys actually like Wendy’s when compared to McDonalds or BurgerKing.
New Shopping Tech- Personal Scanners
Jun 21st
How often do you go to a grocery store on a weekend only to find out that you shop for 20 minutes but wait in line for another 20 minutes? I certainly have, and a chain of grocery stores in Maryland plans to change that. Several Bloom Grocery stores in Maryland are using a new type of scanners that cuts down the amount of time shoppers spend waiting in line by offering a special hand held scanner that lets the customer keep a running tally of items.
Below is what your new shopping cart will have attached to it. Basically, you walk around the isles and once you pick up an item you can scan it and keep it in your cart.
How do I scan items that aren’t usually priced?
You may wonder how produce items such as vegetables and fruits are priced and scanned into the system. Well, thats simple too, I have seen these at my local stores and maybe you have too. In the produce section, there will be weighing scales that will weigh the product and print the label for the item at the weighing station itself. What this allows customers to do is to avoid the clerks at the checkout counters who may not know what an Asian Pear looks like or those who cant distinguish between Italian flat leaf parsley and the regular curly parsley. This way, the customer himself or herself gets to weigh the product and enter the product code which will be listed where the product is kept. Bloom stores takes it a step further with kiosks that allow customers to print recipes that include the location of the ingredients. Although I haven’t seen anything like that around my local stores, I am sure that it would be a great idea.
Heading to the Counter! & What About Shoplifting?
Once you are done shopping you head to the front (picture above) and scan a code generated by your personal scanner into the system, followed by a swipe of your “shoppers card” and lastly paying. By shoppers card they mean your Kroger Card or Pathmark or Shoprite card. Although the stores claim they don’t have issues with shop lifting, I am not sure how long that could last. As far as feasibility of such technology, I am sure that we will see it in the near future, but imagine using such a system at a Wal-Mart or Target. The article states that random audits are taken to stop shop lifting but how can you be sure? Well, there isn’t a way to be sure for now and that would lead to a downfall for this kind of system. I can’t imagine seeing a system such as this being implemented at a Wal-Mart where hundreds of people will be running around the isles. Also, most stores have the express checkouts where you use a touchscreen monitor to checkout but it does come with its occasional problems. There always has to be human intervention just in case something doesn’t work – things such as price errors or coupons not scanning.
Will This System Work?
Personally, I don’t know if this system will work in larger stores but as far as local grocery stores, I think that it can be used as a worthy option. Individuals who prefer going to a checkout counter with a clerk have their way and those who like the electronic method can go with their preference. In the end, only time can tell whether or not such a system will work at the larger scale. As of right now, its pretty exciting to read about but it makes me wonder, how life was before the electronic checkout we see now days? I remember waiting in line for at least 15 minutes even if i only had 20 items. Obviously, express checkout lanes are now available but you still have to wait in line. Usually the touchscreen based checkout systems don’t have a long wait time and are quick to use unless you have produce items or coupons that don’t scan. Either way, I want to know if the electronic systems you use now have made it easier for you to shop or if they haven’t?
2-headed Snake, “We”, Dies
Jun 21st

Its sad news but considering that most other 2-headed snakes only last about a week or two, this particular 2-headed snake was lucky enough to be around for 8 years. Thats right, “We” which was the two headed snake acquired by the World Aquarium for $15,000 from a snake breeder in Indiana in 1999, died due to natural causes this past weekend. Over 1 million people have seen “We” and although he is no more, a taxidermist is on the job preserving We’s body so that it can go back on display. Last year, “We” was set to be auctioned off for $150,000 to raise money for research and conservation but due to unsatisfactory bids, he remained with the World Aquarium. He had both male and female genitalia and the World Aquarium had tried to breed him last year but were unsuccessful. They had planned to try and breed “We” again this year but obviously the unexpected death of the very popular snake caused those plans to be called off. “We” was one of the main attractions for the World Aquarium. If you would like to donate to the “We” memorial fund then please visit his memorial page at the World Aquarium.

Updates & Contests
Jun 20th
Well, if you visited my blog between 2pm CST and 3:30pm CST you may have noticed that the header was looking weird at certain times of the day and the reason for that is because I do not have an “Under Maintenance” page while I work on certain aspects of my blog. I have changed quite a bit of stuff on the blog lately. Mainly I have tried to speed up the page loading process and so the Clicksor Ad is gone and the Google Referral Ad is now gone also. For some other changes, the footer of the page is now complete! I know, that some of you just like myself, didnt notice there was a footer until last week! So anyway, that is done and well, I have a new header and the reason for the new header is that even though the old header was great, it was just a little too dull. I hope this one is better than the last one, but you have to let me know what you think!
Aside from that here are some of the things that have happened in the past few days that I need to catch up on.
Ms. Danielle
Ms. Danielle from MsDanielle.com recently mentioned me on her blog! I had written a review about her blog for a contest she was running about a week ago and she liked some part of it so much that she actually published it as a block quote on her own blog. I feel I have won already!
John Chow’s Monitor Giveaway
Well, he’s at it again. This time John Chow has kicked it up a notch and although the chances of winning are slim, I’m still going for it! John Chow dot Com, a blog that helps you make money is giving away a 24″ wide screen LCD monitor! To enter, you just have to write about it. This is my entry. Now give me the monitor! The contest is sponsored by BlueFur, who wants to let you know that they’re hosting Canada and the rest of the world.
CreateBusinessGrowth.com Contest
CreateBusinessGrowth.com is giving away $335 worth of podcasting gear away if you simply subscribe for their feed. I think its an interesting concept and to be honest, I really like the website. Christine, who is an author of the website, did view my website recently which was quite flattering! The great they are giving away seems great and I would love to try my hand at podcasting and I feel that hearing my voice could be kind of cool! I really love that microphone and that pop filter they are giving away. Boy that entire package is just great. Check it out!
JaKelDaily.com
The editor of JaKelDaily.com has a great blog and loves blogging and replied to my JohnChow.com Reviewed post asking me to take part in his review exchange. He has a pretty good PR and so if you want to get a free backlink just review his blog.
Backlink Exchange
I started the Technorati link exchange a while ago and that went quite well and now I wanted to do a backlink exchange. I dont expect you to write a 100 words nor do i expect you to write a completely new post to mention my blog in, but I hope that if you say at least 1-2 lines that it would be satisfactory. What I will do in return is provide you a back link and do a small review of your website. You aren’t limited to 1 or 2 lines but at least something such as the following would be good:
Enkay Blog is a blog about Technology, Business, Cars and Reviews. He will give you a free backlink if you review his blog.
Once you are done, just send me an email or comment on either of the posts and depending on the response, I will put up the reviews in batches or I’ll put them up as they come.
Well, hope you enjoyed the post and stay tuned I have some pretty entertaining news on the way!
