Update on Enkay Blog
Hello everyone, as you all know school has been keeping me more than busy. My current schedule pretty much leaves me with 4 hour nights and that includes the time I spend at school and the time I spend studying. As some of you have read, I have a 3.9 GPA and I am trying to keep it up to maintain it and that means that I am at school about 12 hours on a daily basis followed by several hours at home studying what was taught in class today. As you can imagine, time does seem to go by fast and I have to accomplish all my tasks on a day-to-day basis. I have built a strong base in the blogosphere and I would hate to give that up. Now, why am I telling you this? Well, no, I’m not selling the blog but it is a catchy title isnt it? However, I just wanted to let me readers know that I do strive to provide them with great content on a daily basis even with all the burden from school.
Selling Your Content…To Your Reader
Either way, lets get to today’s topic of discussion which is about how you can sell your content to your readers…FOR FREE. Sound a little confusing? Well, think about it for a second. When you offer content on your blog, you wish for someone to read it and notice it and if you’re lucky, become a regular reader and even subscribe to your RSS Feed. Now, what does this have anything to do with selling your content you ask? Its similar, because your content is your product and you want your customers (readers) to notice you and eventually buy your product or become a regular reader. I have a few hints on how you can achieve that:
1. Make Your Content Interesting: The whole idea of blogging is to have content that is personal but at the same time applies to your readers also. If it doesn’t relate to them or in some way doesn’t affect them, then they will be indifferent about it. Every reader wonders, “What do you have to offer me” similar to how before you buy a new product you think about whether or not its actually worth it. Even though your content is free, it still costs the readers in terms of time and you need to make sure that you provide them with what they are looking for. Another big point is that you need to be consistent in your posting otherwise readers will lose interest quickly.
2. Visible RSS Button: It seems that slowly people are starting to realize how important this is as I see fewer and fewer blogs that have their RSS button located in a small corner. Make sure you have an attractive button, that is large enough to be notice and helps the reader know where they can subscribe. If you’re missing the RSS button then you are losing out on reaching a bigger audience more effectively.
3. Keep Your Posts Short: This is something I have never mentioned before and I never followed it myself until now. I will try to keep my posts shorter unless they are paid reviews but what seems to be the case is that when you have interesting content, you shouldn’t prolong it, unless you have to, otherwise your audience will just get tired of reading and move on. You want the message to be short and sweet so that your readers can read it and respond if they want to.
On that note, I hope that you have enjoyed the post and I want to see your thoughts on the last point because that is something that I really didn’t understand until recently when I noticed that shorter posts get more comments and reader feedback. Let me see what you have think!
