What Is Blog Worthy?

November 29th, 2007 | 3 Comments | Posted in Blog, Make Money Online

Before making most of my blog related posts, I always think about whether or not something is “Blog-Worthy”. The basic idea of being blog worthy is whether or not something is deserving enough to be transformed into a post and if so, does it have any value to my readers. There are several things that decide whether or not a subject is blog worthy and aside from those subjects, there are also several ways to identify something as being worthy enough to blog about. So, lets start off by talking about what are some of the things that decide whether or not you should blog about something:

a) Make sure that you feel a connection to the subject at hand - if you don’t feel the connection, then your readers will be able to tell and you won’t be able to pass on your message effectively
b) Think about whether the audience can relate to it - if your audience is comprised of technology lovers and you blog about how you pick out the best salmon at the seafood counter, you really aren’t connecting to them or helping them with any good information and if they don’t feel that something relates to them, they can always find that information elsewhere.
c) Does this subject even interest me? - that question is very important to a blogger because if they aren’t even interested in something, then there is no way that they can incite interest within their readers

Now that we have talked about some categories to decide whether something is blog worthy or not, lets see what subject matters are blog worthy
a) News Items - most news items are well.. news!.. people like to know about what is going on and if you are able to report a news item as it occurs, then it will only benefit them and you that much more. Ex. bloggers covering BlogWorldExpo while they were on their trip
b) Personal Posts - if something relates to you personally or something with regards to your blog and you feel your audience should know about it, then you should blog about it. Ex. if your blog is undergoing some maintainence, etc.
c) Informational/Education - if you find an article or e-book that is education and something that you haven’t seen before, it is likely that most of your readers haven’t come across it either

Well, those were a few tips regarding blog worthiness. I do hope to resume regular posting pretty soon once exams finish, so expect that to take place within 10 days. Hopefully everyone is enjoying the cold weather! Thanks for reading!

Want To Buy A Zune?

November 21st, 2007 | 4 Comments | Posted in Blog, General, Videos

So many of you know that I won the Zune from Ms. Danielle a few months ago and currently the old version of the Zune is going for as low as $100 everywhere during this Thanksgiving shopping season. This post is to try and convince those of you, who do not understand how great of a deal this really is. Recently, Microsoft released the Zune 2.2 Update and here is the screenshot of when I upgraded the firmware.

Zune

I did a review of the Zune when I first received it which you can see here. The Zune is a really great device and with the new update, it adds a few more features to its list. They’ve added wireless sync of your content, faster browsing and overall a much better firmware. Most people do prefer the iPods but if you really are looking for a low cost player then you shouldn’t overlook the Zune. There is even a video of some of the new features and you guys can check it out below:

So if some of you are looking for a great audio and video player, then for $100 the Zune is a steal! The firmware upgrade is free and for the current price, the Zune is really worth the money. Considering that most 30GB players are not even close to $100. Well, hope you guys have a great Thanksgiving and Black Friday Shopping Spree! Have a good one!

Did My PR Get Nuked?

November 20th, 2007 | 9 Comments | Posted in Blog, General

Thanks to BetShopBoy for noticing this but apparently the PR of my site is now down to zero! Thats right, Google decided that for some odd reason I didn’t even deserve the PR 2 that I had received so now they have taken it down a few notches. I find it hard to believe how this happens specially to a blog like mine which has been so immensely popular until lately due to having inconsistent posting. Although, the inconsistent posting is soon about to change, I think Google needs to figure out once and for all, what they plan on doing with PR. I decided to do a little research on PR checker sites (that were working) and the results seemed a little out of line. Heres what I came across:

PR

PR

PR

PR

What I really can’t understand is how is my PR showing 4 when I can’t seem to pull up any record of it through my toolbar at the bottom. I truly think its a mistake that my PR was dropped down to a zero anyway or atleast I hope its a mistake but maybe someone else has seen this on their blog. If you have noticed this going on, let me know through the comments. I’m just wondering if I am the only one in the sinking ship! Anyway, hope you guys have a great Thanksgiving. Stay tuned for my post coming up soon!

6th Month Blog Birthday!

November 15th, 2007 | 11 Comments | Posted in Blog, General, Make Money Online
Blog Birthday

Well, its my 6 month Blog Birthday and that means that you get to see my monthly earnings. This month, I have to admit that the number of posts and traffic was down quite a bit mainly due to the lack of posting on my behalf but around this time next month, I will start blogging again so those numbers will surely rise. My RSS reader numbers have actually risen to around 70+ so that has been good. Lets take a look at the income breakdown.

Adsense - I did not change around the Adsense placement and Google has always been able to provide consistent results for the blog and although some people would disagree, I think it is a stable source of income for the blog.

TTZMedia - Since last month, I have decided to do away with TTZ Media because after my report on TTZMedia, I realized that my earnings were going to be cut in half and that wasn’t satisfactory for me because Google Adsense was performing much better for me, so I decided to switch back to Adsense.

Text Link Ads - TLA hasn’t been able to generate any revenue for the blog even after the fact that the Alexa for the blog is in the 80,000 range. Either way, if you are interested you can place your order. If you aren’t a member and want to sign-up then click here.

Kontera - Kontera has been performing better ever since I changed the link color from being the same as a regular link on the blog. It has grown tremendously since the link color change. You should try it out!

ReviewMe / Direct Reviews - I actually did do a review this month for MacEwan and the earnings reflect the money received as a result of that. If you are interested in a direct review, it will set you back $20 directly through me and you will also get a spot on the Wall Of Blogs. If you want to see what you will receive for $20, see my review of The Prize Blog or my review of MacEwan and if you are already impressed then you can order your review by clicking the button below. ReviewMe can be a great way to increase your income so consider signing up for it, if you aren’t signed up already!

Sponsored Reviews - I did not do any reviews through SponsoredReviews this month mainly because most of the reviews offered were not related to the theme of the blog so I decided to stay away from these reviews. Hopefully, doing so has helped maintain the theme on the blog.

5th Month Earnings Report
Google Adsense - $14.30
TTZMedia - $0.60
Text Link Ads - $0.00
Kontera - $1.31
ReviewMe / Direct Reviews - $20.00
SponsoredReviews - $0.00
Grand Total Earnings: $36.21

These earnings are from October 15th to November 14th and although there was a drop in income it was mainly a result of a low posting frequency. Hopefully this will pick up soon!

Traffic: Traffic was slightly down this month to in the 5000 range however the main reason for this is that my post frequency was much lower this month because of school related work and I really do hope to bring that up soon.

Alexa: Last month, I had set a goal for Alexa to be at 75,000 and currently my Alexa is at 81,000 which is not in the range but I am still working on getting my blog on track to get that ranking to look a lot better!

Technorati: I have started to question Technorati as last month my rank was around 16,200 and then suddenly dropped to 20,800 and I had to basically start back again and this has been happening for the past few months. Finally, the ranking is back in the 16,000 range and I really do hope to see it g below 15,000 for the months ahead.

RSS Subscribers: I was actually happy that even after not being able to post as often as I would like that I was able to get around 70+ RSS readers and I am very thankful to all of you who have stuck around with the blog through its ups and downs.

Who Was The Top Commentator?
I was not sure who the Top Commentator last month was - whether it was Nick from RomanDock or Simon from YeePage. According to me, I believe it was Simon but if someone can confirm it, then that would be great. If it was indeed Simon, then you will get a review but if it was Nick then I would have to give Nick a free month of advertising on the blog! Anyway, Hopefully someone can update me on this.

Aside from all that, hopefully the earnings for the month look satisfactory to all of you. They have dropped down considerably but I will definitely be trying to get the blog back up on its feet and from then on the earnings should look much better. Hope you guys had a great week!

Looking To Sell Your Blog?

November 12th, 2007 | 8 Comments | Posted in Blog, General, Make Money Online

So there has been a lot of speculation regarding my blog lately and what mind end up happening is quite true. I have decided that by December end, I will have to find a new owner for the blog because time isn’t on my side specially with school and everything that comes with that. I figure that I will be starting up a new blog instead and not post on a daily basis rather do a weekly post instead. Either way, I decided to do a little research to see what you can do if you feel that you need to sell your blog too, so here are a few tips.

1) Contact Other Bloggers - one of the best ways for promoting the sale of your blog is to contact other bloggers and ask them to raise awareness by letting you do a guest post or by having them mention the sale in a post.

2) Top 100 List - another great idea is to contact a few of the Top 100 Money Making Bloggers out there through 45n5.com’s Top 100 List and have see if they are willing to cover the sale of your blog. Depending on how well you know some of them, they may be more than willing or they may not bother. It all depends on who you contact, remember that I am on the list!

3) Blog About It - Another great idea is to blog about it yourself! Sometimes you never know how many people that read your blog actually might want to take over the blog themselves. It might also help you to sell the blog to someone who likes your content because they may tend to be more motivated to keep the blog going.

4) SitePoint Marketplace - The best place to sell your blog is through SitePoint although many have been successful selling their blog through a post on their own blog. Obviously, many of you have seen several of the top blogs sell on SitePoint and it won’t harm you to give it a shot. Its similar to eBay, but for blogs, and costs around $20.

Well, hope those tips are a little helpful. I am really sorry if the news gets you by surprise but as always, those are my plans for now. That means that they can always change depending on my workload. I do know that until the 12th of December, things will be a little slow, so if I am still able to bring up my traffic after that, then I shall continue with the blog. Have a great week ahead everyone and let me know your thoughts on whether or not you would ever consider selling your blog due to an inability of keeping up with it.
