Is My Blog My Space or Your Space?

November 7th, 2007 | 3 Comments | Posted in Blog, Make Money Online

Well, its all back to the idea of whether or not your blog is your space or not. The idea is that some individuals gear their blogs to accommodate advertisers but I used to think that blogs should be about what you want to talk about not how others are affected. You may have heard the saying “you have to learn to love yourself before others can” and the same goes for your blog. You have to learn to love your blog before others can. Its the whole idea that your content has to be just like it sounds, YOURS!

What that means is that the content you write can be inspired from a general theme or topic but you cannot steal content from anywhere else. I’m not saying that anyone is stealing my content but what I am saying is that you need to be more original in your posts. Most dedicated readers of this blog are worried that if Enkay Blog ever sells, that the content won’t ever be the same. The idea is that when you write a post on your blog, you implicitly embed a picture of yourself within the post. That picture can be very appealing to your readers and a change in the style means not being able to put a face to the content. Does that make sense?

Well, its all about how you are able to brand yourself. Most people know my style of writing and associate themselves with it. For those who are new to my blog, they may notice my style but aren’t affected if the style of posting changes. It all boils down to the fact that you need to design your blog and write content that appeals to you as an author of a blog. You shouldn’t be concerned with what others think because if your content is good, you will always have several admirers and individuals who are influenced by your work.

So, this post is to remind everyone to be themselves and write posts that interest you and don’t just write something for the sake of writing it. I want to help you in being a better blogger by focusing your thoughts and posts on things you can relate to. So now that you are motivated, lets see that great post!

Do YOU Make Your Daily Rounds?

November 5th, 2007 | 8 Comments | Posted in Blog, General

The big question is, Do you make your daily rounds? or better yet, are you able to make your daily rounds? No, im not talking about checking up on someone or anything of that sort. I’m talking about being able to visit your fellow blogger’s blogs and being able to comment. Its an important part of networking with others and it usually gets overlooked in blogging. Obviously, if you are in a crunch for time, you sometimes may not get to look around or comment for that matter.

Truth of the matter is, I do browse around all the people that visit my site but you just don’t know it. Now you might say, “Yeah Right”. Well, if you have noticed ever since MyBlogLog merged with Yahoo, I haven’t logged into MyBlogLog mainly because I didn’t want to merge the accounts. Well, I finally decided to do so. So basically, even if I did visit a blog before, you never saw me under “Recent Readers” because I wasn’t logged into MyBlogLog. Either way, lets continue with the main subject.

The idea of browsing around other blogs is good for several reasons. Lets take a look at what a few of those reasons could be:

1) Inspiration : For me, its very inspiring to come across a well written post or a post with a great graphic. It helps me pull the effort to write a post of that caliber. The fact that a post is well written helps motivate me to actually write better. Also, sometimes you are able to gain inspiration from what others in the blogosphere are talking about and its a great way to pick topics. (Note: I said pick topics, not copy-paste posts, thats plagiarism!)

2) Networking : I always mention Networking but the basic idea is that once you browse around other blogs, you slowly begin to communicate, even implicitly, with their author. This helps you in the long run in case you have a question or need a little advice. Its always good to have someone willing to help you because they know that you have been a part of their reading community.

3) Share Ideas : Lastly, sharing ideas is probably a big topic. I really would like to have a project in which a few bloggers got together to create something spectacular. Its all about teamwork and when bloggers share ideas, they end up discussing ideas to help better their blogs and its always a good thing. When you write comments, you are sharing ideas with the author and vice-versa. Its a fantastic way to get to know someone better as well as be noticed.

Well, hopefully you got a little something out of this post. I promise to try and find the time to write posts such as this one in the future. Let me know if you guys “make your rounds” around your blogging community and how often do you do it? Usually, I make my rounds once every 2 days. Have a great week everyone!

Weekend Update - November 4th

November 4th, 2007 | 6 Comments | Posted in Blog, Entertainment, General

Good morning guys, Well its November 4th and that means that I am officially 20 years old! It seems that time flies by really quick and quite honestly I am a little disappointed to hit 20 mainly because I’m not a teenager anymore! The only way I can console myself is to say that atleast its not 40 or something like that. Well, getting back to the topic. As you know time is of the essence and lately I haven’t had much time to blog but hopefully I will be able to make up for it soon. Lets talk about some blogging news.

PR Update
Obviously, as many of you know the PR updates have finally come around and even though some of us aren’t happy there isn’t much we can do about it. Its a little surprising that with all the stats this blog has pulled in 5 months, that it wasn’t given at least a PR 3. Its a little disappointing but I’ll take whatever I can get!

BloggingFingers Sold
BloggingFingers is a popular blog that recently fetched $6000 and its stats aren’t too far away from mine. They have a PR3, 200 RSS Subscribers, 16k Technorati and 50K Alexa. In Comparison, My blog is currently a PR2, 70 RSS Subscribers, 17k Technorati and 82k Alexa. Its food for thought and I think the selling price for that blog was quite good specially for being only 4 months old!

Nick Discusses McDonald’s Monopoly
No, this isn’t a discussion about how McDonald’s has created a monopoly in the fast food business but this discusses how McDonalds lures in fast food junkies with the idea that they can enter codes on an online website that they find on specially marked McDonalds containers such as a French fries box, a drink, etc. Its an interesting post and you should check it out.

King Kong’s Mug Contest
TheKingKongBlog is running a Mug Contest along with their Video Player Giveaway and I figured that I had a great monkey video around that everyone would enjoy, so hopefully you guys will LOVE this. Enjoy!

How Happy Are You With PR?

November 2nd, 2007 | 17 Comments | Posted in Blog, General

There has been a lot of buzz over the past week that the PR updates had taken place. To be honest, I didn’t read about the PR updates until I browsed to my own blog and saw the toolbar display a PR of 2 in the bottom. Although the PR Prediction Tool had displayed an expected PR of 5, I personally believed that the blog would receive a PR of 3 and so I was a little disappointed in the fact that I wasn’t able to do better than a 2.

I don’t really know how Google calculates the PR however according to some other data centers, the PR was displaying as a 3. Either way, I guess I will have to wait for the next updates to hope for a better PR. My question is, for those of you that did receive the PR update or a new PR for a new blog, how content are you?

Also, there have been rumors that this is the last of PR and beginning next year, there would be something known as Trust Rank. I don’t know how far this is true but if anyone knows, it would be something interesting for me to look into. I would also like to apologize for the delay in updates over the past week due to the fact that I was unable to even turn my computer on for more than 20 minutes considering that I was running around with school work. I will definitely try and get stuff posted more often. Anyway, let me know your thoughts on PR and have a great weekend ahead!
