Adsense Tips & Reports

Technically, my 100th post was a few posts ago but I was in Orlando and didn’t have Photoshop to create it so here it is! Anyway, lets get back to the topic at hand – I’ve heard of Google Adsense calling out people because they have too many ads on their page or because they are violating some aspect of the rules.
Its important to read your Optimization reports that Google generates monthly for your Adsense account. My June 2007 Report stated that “Placing more than one ad unit on a page often generates more revenue. Many of your sites only contain one ad unit.” Basically, I need to have more ads! I used to only have maybe 1 or 2 ads on a page but they recommend that I put more ad units so, if you see the maximum allowed (3 ads) on a page then don’t be surprised. I am trying to see how well the tip works. Either way, this post is about how your optimization reports can help you better your site revenue and what you can do to take advantage of Adsense.
Adsense Ad Design
You need to make sure that you pick the right size and color scheme for your ads. Usually, people like to pick the color scheme that matches their blog design and that is probably the best suggestion anyone can give you. You need to make your ads blend in. Secondly, you have to pick the right size of ad. You cant have three skyscraper ads on a single page all placed one on top of the other. The best option is to have your ads “float” in your posts and keeping that in mind, your ads should most probably be medium-sized squares or medium-sized rectangles so that they don’t interfere with your blog content. Its not in your best interest to have a skyscraper ad in the middle of your post because it just doesn’t fit so go with the medium-sized squares or rectangles and that way you can probably get the most bang for your buck.
Image Ads Are Eye Catching
It may be a good idea to have image ads on your websites because unlike most text ads, they have a visual appeal that people may be more inclined to click on. For example you can see what an image ad looks like below and you can see why someone would be tempted to click on it. It may be an option to test out how Image Ads work on your website and if your ads match the content of your blog then you may have the perfect ad combination going.

Have More Than One Ad Unit
It may be in your best interest to have more than one ad unit on a page. Although, I only have 1 Google Ad on my page, I was doing so without paying much attention. The optimization report is an eye opener that will influence me to making sure that I don’t limit myself to one ad. So, maximize your review by having more than one ad on a page. It will help your Adsense revenue in the long run. But on the other hand, do not overload your pages because it doesn’t look as nice and overall, you may be violating Google policies.
Google Ad Placement
Ad Location is quite important and Google has a nice “hot zone map” for placement of your ads. Obviously the brighter the color, the better the ad location is in terms of revenue. I suggest integrating ads into your posts but the map actually provides you with alternative ad locations. The map below is specific for blogs and so its tried and tested.

Look at Different Ad Formats
Google has a great page that shows the different ad formats that you can include on your blog or website. The page shows examples of Text Ads, Image Ads, Video Ads, Link Units, Referral Buttons, Theme Units, etc. This will let you have a first hand look at the different types of ads possible before you actually go out and start adding the ad units to your website. Also, it lets you see an example of the image ads that you can incorporate in your blog. The page can be accessed by going here.
Well, I hope that helps, and I am sure to incorporate some of these strategies in my blog too. If you have any questions feel free to contact me. Do check out my Link Exchange opportunity and get a free link back! Thanks for reading!
