Blogging – A Business or Hobby?
It seems lately as though that wherever you look, bloggers are turning their blogs into money making machines and theres nothing wrong with that , but it wasn’t like that a few years ago. First, we used to have blogs on Blogger or Xanga and they were blogs about peoples daily lives and it was normal. Today it seems that even those bloggers are integrating ReviewMe or Adsense into their blogs. The question is, is blogging becoming a business more than a hobby?
I wonder what the trend is because I start to question what is really happening. I have talked to several people over the past couple days and they all stated that they wouldnt be blogging as much if they weren’t getting paid or if there wasnt a revenue stream attached to it. Thats a crazy thought and although most of us won’t agree, thats the reason why we blog in the first place. The thought process is that every thing we do has a reason or incentive. In this case, the incentive is money.
But aside from that, its also quite apparent that blogs are growing very rapidly. It was only a few years ago that John Chow started his blog. Same for ShoeMoney and now the same bloggers have gone from top bloggers to super bloggers. What I’m saying is that why is it that we blog. What other incentive is there aside from the aspect of interaction, money and a sense of “readership”.
I love blogging. I know that I havent blogged in a while but even when I’m not blogging, I am talking about it or discussing it with my peers. Yes, one of the reasons is a good passive income but mostly, i like the interaction. I like hearing opinions from other bloggers and I like to know what they think about certain websites, blogs or MMO options. So, do you really think the blogging niche is going from being a hobby to a business? let me know your thoughts!

Yep, blogging seems to become more business than hobby nowadays.
Blogging purely become business very few of blogger or some communities only doing for hobby
In my opinion blogging always starts as a hobby and than a few lucky people (or should I say persistent) realize that it can be a viable business.
Blogging is a great way to interact with like-minded people who you may not come across on a day-to-day basis. While there are many other reasons to blog, including making money or recording your life or hobbies, it provides a level or connecting that you couldn’t get writing in a journal.
I think as long as the blog still provides great content and design, it’s ok to use it as a source of income. Some people do truly want to blog and not worry about monetizing, but if the opportunity is there, take it!
I think blogging become business rarely hobby. It’s really good way to earn money.
Yes, having a place to share and be yourself, network with others and make connections. Depending on the blog, it may be strictly for monetary purposes or social.
Most of my blogs have a mix…but the one’s i’m really social on are more about building a brand and network, to help in other areas not directly related to the blog.
But whatever the case, I have to be interested in the topic or it’s not gonna work.
In reality 95% of blogs earn less than $100 a month so statistics show that most bloggers don’t make much money on their blogs. I’d prefer to use my blog to promote my main business on my homepage as you can see on my URI.
Its easily noticeable that the blogs are growing and growing. Its especially evident during this struggling economy where people are looking to outsource for jobs, as the job market outside dwindles.
Till then,
Jean

yep it’s a great way to make money but you really shouldn’t rely on it
