Weekly Update - October 28th

So, I have to apologize and let you know ahead of time that this week might be a little slow because I have a lot going on in terms of school but I’ll try to post as often as I can. First off, as promised, there will be a surprise the beginning of next month. This was something that was in the works but its in the process of being finalized. So that should be some good news.

1) Suite J - Suite J talks about how the things on your desk relates to your personality. I think mines more of a control freak and a show-off type of thing. See where you fit in!

2) Franklin Bishop - Franklin discusses how to build a community on your blog which is very important for you to be able to sustain your blog. It should feel like a community in order for comments and interaction to take place. Its a great post that you should check out.

3) WebTrafficROI - WebTrafficROI talks about why they love twitter and why you should too. Twitter is a great tool that can really help you out in the long run so if you don’t know how it can benefit you, this list can help you realize that.

4) RomanDock Dot Com - Nick discusses how bloggers are getting their hands in the cookie jar. Its an analogy for how bloggers that are growing tremendously are not appreciative enough of their readers and what they should do and think about in order to maintain the one-to-one relationship with their readers.

5) Bruno Auger - Bruno discusses what SEO is and the importance of SEO which stands for search engine optimization. This can really help boost where you place in search engine rankings and this is a great post to help you realize what it really means and entails.

The Weekly Blog Roundup - July 28th

Heres another one of the weekly roundup posts but this time I’m going to mix in some competitions while we’re at it too. So lets take a look:

Derek Semmler - Derek has contributed greatly to this blog and recently when I was looking over his blog, I saw a post that said that I was listed at #5 in the Top 10 Websites that send him the most traffic. Aside from that fact, Derek has an AMAZING contest going on. If you’re a blogger then attending the BlogWorldExpo is like reaching utopia but then again, those things aren’t free. They cost $300 but Derek is going to give away a free pass to BlogWorldExpo if you write a post about why you should be a speaker at BlogWorld and he will pick one winner, based on the how good the response was. This contest ends August 6th and if you’ve been wanting to go and the $300 price tag was slowing you down, you should definitely give this a shot.

John Chow - has a contest along with Bic Pens that ends really soon at the end of this month and I hope to score another one of those Flip Cameras because I know it will come in handy

TheNetFool - Jim has a really great post asking whether Page Rank does a good job in accurately judging a websites popularity. He includes an extensive list (which has always been a +1 for me) of blogs and their PR and his opinion as to whether they are overvalued, appropriate or undervalued. Its a great post that you should check out.

Balkhis - Syed’s most recent post about his day long trip wearing his Market Leverage strikes a familiar chord. I’ve been wearing the golf shirt Market Leverage sent me and I really like it even if its a little bit on the large side. I think its obvious that Syed and I really appreciate the shirts considering people ask us about it all the time. Aside from that, Syed’s ebook “How To Make A Magazine Style Theme In Wordpress” has been downloaded over 2000 times already so you should check it out if you haven’t already.

Market Leverage Walks - Debby Phillips and Jen Fluker from Market Leverage are walking 60 miles for breast cancer together with the Affiliate Marketers Give Back group. Wordpress Blogs on iPhone or iPod Touch?

Have you happened to think about what happens to the iPhone and iPod Touch users when they visit your blog? Well, if you don’t know, let me explain. Basically, the entire page is loaded up and fitted to a 3.5″ display. In order to read your posts they have to use their fingers to zoom in on the post and scroll side to side. Doesn’t that sound somewhat boring?

Well, theres a twist because theres a plug-in called WPtouch by BraveNewCode that will make life a lot easier for your iPhone and iPod Touch users. What this plug-in essentially does is, it automatically displays your blog in an iPhone compatible theme when it recognizes that the user is using an iPhone or iPod Touch.

It also allows them to switch between the customized iPhone view or the Normal View so its easy to flip back if they rather see it in normal view. The best part is that its highly customizable from the Wordpress Admin panel. The plug-in was really simple to install and just needed to be activated for it to work.

To demonstrate, I whipped out my Flip Mino and did a small tutorial on an iPod Touch.

So now that you realize what this can do for your readers, you may want to install WPtouch . The reason is that very soon there will be a large number of iPhone and possibly iPod Touch users and you wouldnt want to disappoint them by having them zoon into portions of your blog. Many major websites such as FatWallet, Facebook, Google and even Twitter have an iPhone specific design. So if you want to keep up with the times, add this plug-in and make life a little more easier for your iPhone and iPod Touch users.

Note: I apologize for the brightness issues with the Touch. It seemed as though if I made it brighter it wasnt too clear but if I lowered the brightness then it would act as a mirror of everything else but the screen. Hopefully its clear enough considering I dont have any fancy lenses or anything.

Kontera to InfoLinks Transition!

I dont know if many of you have noticed but the blog doesnt have Kontera anymore. Sadly, Kontera was not performing as well and I have kept thinking to myself that it may be time for me to get rid of it once and for all. This morning I got an email from Noa over at InfoLinks and he informed me about their in-text advertising program.

The whole idea with InfoLinks is that its exactly like Kontera, only better. They offer a higher payout rate than Kontera which has been a big disappointment for many Kontera users. Furthermore, they make payments with Paypal as well which is something that Kontera has not been able to offer. I actually liked Kontera’s quick integration aside from the fact that its payouts were not that great. Over the course of 1 year, Kontera has barely scraped up $35 which is not a great amount considering the total page views that this blog has received.

The integration at infolinks is the same as Kontera so it only took me literally 5 minutes to go through and swap out Kontera to InfoLinks. The idea is that they are promising 80% revenue sharing and that means better payouts. I am actually positive about InfoLinks and based on the results achieved with Kontera, I am willing to try out InfoLinks to see how well they perform. I will update you on a weekly basis and give you a comparison as to how InfoLinks is performing against Kontera.

I have to wonder though, were any one of you contacted and what do you think about the in-text ads so far?

Market Leverage Is Where Its At!

I know that many of you have seen the promotions Market Leverage is having around the blogosphere and you will see me mention a few of those later but basically Market Leverage has been awesome so far.
