How Good or Bad is 1&1 Hosting?

May 26th, 2010 | 16 Comments | Posted in Blog, General, Other Reviews

This isn’t a review as most of you would think. I know that I haven’t posted in a long time here on Enkay Blog but I think the time has come that I do start posting on here. I’ve missed the blog a lot and school has now come to a close and that means, more time for my blog. Interestingly enough, this comeback post is somewhat weird for me. I have been with 1&1 Hosting for about 4 years now and have never had any problems but I started to get concerned after I received this email from a reader who is also a member on a very popular hand-held PC forum. A forum where I have been a member for about 5 years.

The email is as follows – ” Figured I’d share my experiences with 1&1. I am glad you are having good luck with them, but honestly, I have no good words for them. The domain was stolen a few days before the last PocketPC Magazine hit the stands, in which my software won a major award, and I was receiving a lot of exposure with DVD Catalyst Free due to a LifeHacker article. They took over the domain at the time the domain was the most popular, and nearly killed my whole business in the process. Because of their thievery, I’ve been struggling ever since. Finally last November I got a lucky break, but take it from me, change your registrar company before you end up like me.”

The thing is that I have heard of PocketDVD and I think that this story does have a lot of truth to it and I strongly feel for this individual. I also understand what is going on. I even looked up what this person was talking about and its very true – this has happened to a lot of people. Now, I figured that I am a loyal customer so why shouldn’t my hosting company be loyal to me? right? well, I want to ask these questions directly to 1and1 so I hope that someone is willing to answer these questions for me.

So, if anyone 1and1.com representative comes across this or anyone has had experience with this issue or has heard others that have had this issue please write in the comment box below as I would love to hear from you. So lets see the comments! Also, do let me know if you’ve experienced such problems or even similar problems with other hosting companies.

The Weekly Blog Roundup – July 28th

July 28th, 2008 | 9 Comments | Posted in General, Other Reviews

Heres another one of the weekly roundup posts but this time I’m going to mix in some competitions while we’re at it too. So lets take a look:

Derek Semmler – Derek has contributed greatly to this blog and recently when I was looking over his blog, I saw a post that said that I was listed at #5 in the Top 10 Websites that send him the most traffic. Aside from that fact, Derek has an AMAZING contest going on. If you’re a blogger then attending the BlogWorldExpo is like reaching utopia but then again, those things aren’t free. They cost $300 but Derek is going to give away a free pass to BlogWorldExpo if you write a post about why you should be a speaker at BlogWorld and he will pick one winner, based on the how good the response was. This contest ends August 6th and if you’ve been wanting to go and the $300 price tag was slowing you down, you should definitely give this a shot.

John Chow – has a contest along with Bic Pens that ends really soon at the end of this month and I hope to score another one of those Flip Cameras because I know it will come in handy :)

TheNetFool - Jim has a really great post asking whether Page Rank does a good job in accurately judging a websites popularity. He includes an extensive list (which has always been a +1 for me) of blogs and their PR and his opinion as to whether they are overvalued, appropriate or undervalued. Its a great post that you should check out.

Balkhis – Syed’s most recent post about his day long trip wearing his Market Leverage strikes a familiar chord. I’ve been wearing the golf shirt Market Leverage sent me and I really like it even if its a little bit on the large side. I think its obvious that Syed and I really appreciate the shirts considering people ask us about it all the time. Aside from that, Syed’s ebook “How To Make A Magazine Style Theme In Wordpress” has been downloaded over 2000 times already so you should check it out if you haven’t already.

Market Leverage Walks – Debby Phillips and Jen Fluker from Market Leverage are walking 60 miles for breast cancer together with the Affiliate Marketers Give Back group. They have a goal to raise $45,000 and are currently at a little over $29,100. Market Leverage is matching every dollar that is donated towards this great cause. If you would like to show them some support, please consider donating by using Debby’s Donation Link or Jen’s Donation Link.

So that wraps up this week’s blog roundup and I hope to see many more articles come up in the following days so that I can enjoy them and blog about it so that my readers can check them out also. Thanks again for stopping by! Remember, my Market Leverage contest ends within a week so sign up if you haven’t!

Wordpress Blogs on iPhone or iPod Touch?

June 29th, 2008 | 10 Comments | Posted in Blog, Make Money Online, Other Reviews, Videos

Have you happened to think about what happens to the iPhone and iPod Touch users when they visit your blog? Well, if you don’t know, let me explain. Basically, the entire page is loaded up and fitted to a 3.5″ display. In order to read your posts they have to use their fingers to zoom in on the post and scroll side to side. Doesn’t that sound somewhat boring?

Well, theres a twist because theres a plug-in called WPtouch by BraveNewCode that will make life a lot easier for your iPhone and iPod Touch users. What this plug-in essentially does is, it automatically displays your blog in an iPhone compatible theme when it recognizes that the user is using an iPhone or iPod Touch.

It also allows them to switch between the customized iPhone view or the Normal View so its easy to flip back if they rather see it in normal view. The best part is that its highly customizable from the Wordpress Admin panel. The plug-in was really simple to install and just needed to be activated for it to work.

To demonstrate, I whipped out my Flip Mino and did a small tutorial on an iPod Touch.

So now that you realize what this can do for your readers, you may want to install WPtouch . The reason is that very soon there will be a large number of iPhone and possibly iPod Touch users and you wouldnt want to disappoint them by having them zoon into portions of your blog. Many major websites such as FatWallet, Facebook, Google and even Twitter have an iPhone specific design. So if you want to keep up with the times, add this plug-in and make life a little more easier for your iPhone and iPod Touch users.

Note: I apologize for the brightness issues with the Touch. It seemed as though if I made it brighter it wasnt too clear but if I lowered the brightness then it would act as a mirror of everything else but the screen. Hopefully its clear enough considering I dont have any fancy lenses or anything.
