Finding An iPhone 3G In Houston

July 12th, 2008 Posted in General

Everyone knows that the iPhone 3G was released on July 11th at 8am and considering that I’m still not sure whether I should be getting one, I thought it would be a good idea to check out my nearest Apple store to see how many people actually showed up. I went down to First Colony Mall and as I walked in the mall, I noticed that there was a crowd of about 150 people inside the mall with the line going outside the main door. I saw an Apple employee and a few police officers standing in front of the store so I decided to talk to them and ask them for permission before I take any pictures or video.

Unfortunately, the Apple Store employee did not allow me to take pictures or video inside the mall and said that if I wasn’t a customer, I shouldn’t really be here. While this conversation was going on, there were people behind me taking pictures so I really don’t know why there were restrictions on me but anyway, I obliged and left the Mall. I then decided to drive around the outside and see how long the line really was. There were said to be an average of 700 units per store so check out the video to see how many people actually showed up to get themselves an iPhone at this location.

Note: Sorry for the shaky video as the car was moving and there were two speed bumps!

Wow, that is pretty crazy. I’m too impatient to wait in a line like that:)

This time I’m not sure that the results were as great as the hype created by the launch. I still wonder why copy-paste is missing!

I certainly would not want to wait in a line that long. What gives the employee of the Apple store the authority to determine whether you can take pictures in other parts of the mall. I could understand if he told you not to take pictures from inside the store or something (though I don’t know why he would) but for other parts of the mall, that would be up to mall management and security!
