Good Vs. Bad Video Editing
Its something that I really haven’t discussed before so I’ll talk about it now. I was talking to Max from MoneyBites and Bloggears and he suggested this topic for me. I figured that if you’re thinking about submitting your video to Bloggears or posting up a video, then this will help you out.
I know that I’ve already done a few posts on video posts before but this is completely different. If you haven’t read those then it consisted of three parts, advantages of video posts, challenges of video posts and lighting in video posts. Today I’m going to talk about some essentials when it comes to editing your videos and how it makes a big difference overall on your actual video. So lets take a look:
1 – Transitions – Transitions are a key part of videos. For those of you who don’t know, transitions are used between 2 different sets of video clips to make the change from one to the other, smoother. Using the right type of transition can really help make your video look better. You should use transitions that are professional in appearance rather than the ones that are fancier. Using simpler transitions makes your video look better overall. I’ll try to add an example for this really soon.
2 – Music – Music is something that most people like to use but either they use the wrong type of music or the music is too loud. Be sure that you are able to hear what you’re trying to say. If the music is too loud then your message doesn’t go across to your readers. Also, be sure to use the right kind of music. Remember, just because you like it doesn’t mean everyone will.
3 – Beginning & Ending Credits – If the video is for your blog, it would be a good idea to add a link to your website either in the beginning or the end or even both. That way, if others viewers come across it then it would be easier for them to find their way to your blog which is the source of their video. It might lure them into becoming a regular reader.
4 – Neat & Clear Titles – This is something that I have seen evident in several of StephenFung’s videos. Whenever he has a person in the video, he adds a small title tag below so that the viewer knows who it is. If you’re going to have other people in your video be sure to add neat, clear titles so that viewers will be able to identify who it is. It gives them a sense of identity and helps them put a name to the face.
5 – Length – Make sure that your videos aren’t longer than 10 minutes. The average length is anywhere from 4 to 6 minutes. If your videos tend to run close to 10 minutes, try to shorten it so that your readers don’t decide to go somewhere else for the quick fix. If your videos are longer than 10 minutes then break it up into parts. Remember, its not about quantity but quality.
So hopefully this post was informative and will give you some ideas when it comes time for you to do your video posts. I hope you enjoyed it and stay tuned for tomorrow’s weekly round up! Have a great Monday!

I have not ventured into video blogging yet but I will keep these tips in mind.

It’s so much fun doing video blogging and I also push myself in front of the camera despite suffering from camera shyness. One challenge I face is the use of music in my video. Can you suggest any website where there’s a huge bank of digital sound/music we can download for use on our videos?
Great tips Enkay…that’s some stuff I am going to consider and I’ll be reading the other posts you’ve done about video.
