Why I Stop Reading Your Blog

August 19th, 2008 Posted in Blog, Make Money Online

There are several blogs that I started off enjoying quite a bit and as time went on, I realized that, well thats really not that great after all. I’m sure that you have also come across a blog that makes you realize over time that maybe it hasn’t met your expectations. Its almost like watching a movie you enjoyed when you were younger and wondering why you even liked it in the first place.

Getting back to the topic, I just don’t stop reading because I lose interest but its mostly because I notice a few symptoms. These symptoms are not good and if you are or know someone who is suffering from these symptoms then I’d suggest trying to rectify them as soon as possible. The symptoms are as follows:

1) You Stop Being Consistent Without Reason – I have come across very few blogs that either post less frequently than they used to or have completely stopped posting without any reason. Its somewhat like abandoning your readers and its not acceptable in my opinion. If something has come up, at least make a post to let your readers know. You rather inform and be disliked or not inform and be hated.

2) Deteriorating Quality of Posts - This happens sometimes when posts start off being highly detailed and researched and sooner or later the blog converts into a paid review blog almost. The high quality posts either aren’t high quality anymore or have completely disappeared and have been replaced by paid posts. If you have to post low quality posts then you might as well not post anything as it may help you retain readers better than posting just anything.

3) Bad Reputation – I will have to be the first person to completely give up on a blog if I find out that the owner was involved in manipulating his/her readers by way of a fake or rigged contest or by indulging in blogging techniques that are frowned upon such as manipulating Alexa, Feedburner, etc. I think that if you’re hosting a contest you should be giving away the prizes you advertise. Hosting a fake contest doesn’t go unnoticed nowadays and it will not help you in the long run at all.

I hope you enjoyed my post as I always try to bring about new and interesting topics (atleast to me) to discuss. I think my above reasons are my three big reasons why I stop reading any blog amongst some small things that are purely based solely on the way I look at things. Think about the title again, its not why I don’t read your blog by why i STOP reading your blog. So basically, why would you stop reading a blog?

All three reasons are true for me as well, especially number 2. I hate blogs who present great stuff at first and then give me absolute crap a few weeks later.

Good points! I give a blog some time…but, if after a couple weeks there is nothing catching my eye or grabbing my attention, then it drops off my must-read list.

Nice piece of reasoning. The last point reminds me on one blog who deleted all his posts after the contest and had the cheek to ask if anyone was interested to buy over his domain. I don’t have the slightest idea of he did it and quiet unfortunately, I won the top prize..

Does http://www.grademoney.com ring a bell? I thought I shouldn’t bad mouth anyone here but what a heck! I think he is abandoning his blog already.

Damn, you could warn a guy before you stop showing up. There I am doing all the right things, not rigging any games or anything and then out of the blue, you stop showing up, my one and only reader. Who the hell am I blogging for then ;)

I usually stop reading a blog when the blogger starts writing posts to serve solely as the required “stuffing” between paid posts. I’m not a fan of PPP blogs, they all say the same thing and they encourage bloggers to be dishonest for pay!

@An American In France, I’m not sure how you can qualify the comment, ‘they encourage bloggers to be dishonest for pay’?
